Physical Education
Introduction
This course suits students who are actively competing in one sport and want to share their passion for sport, linking it to the theoretical aspects of PE. The course teaches students how performers excel in sport and helps them to relate this theory to their own performance.

Assessment
- Examination: 70%
- 30% physiological factors affecting performance.
- 20% psychological factors affecting performance.
- 20% socio-cultural issues in physical activity and sport.
- Non-examined assessment: 30% (performance in physical education - assessment of performance or coaching in one sport and completion of an evaluation and analysis of performance for improvement task).

Skills and requirements
Subject entry requirements
- Grade 5 in GCSE physical education or equivalent and a grade 5 in GCSE English language and GCSE science. It is not essential to have taken GCSE PE.
Sixth Form entry requirements
- 4 A-levels over 2 years: for students who have achieved 5 or more grade 7s or above including English and maths (grade 5 or above).
- 3 A-levels over 2 years: for students who have achieved 5 grade 5s or above including English and maths.
- Level 3 vocational courses: for students who have achieved 5 grade 4s or above including English and maths.

In addition, students will learn how the body works and impacts sports performance, link the effects of psychology on individuals, teams and on performance as well as how sports developed to what we know them as today.

Future pathways
If you have a real interest and enthusiasm for sport and physical education then this course is suited to you. As part of the course you will study human movement and performance, and contemporary issues in sport. This is excellent preparation for many professions in sport including:
- Physiotherapy.
- Sports science research.
- Leisure management.
- Sports development/coaching.
- Teaching.
